Things to Keep in Mind when visiting Walt Disney Orlando

Before we look into the details of the best time to visit Disney World, we want you to keep in mind a few essential tips or ground rules to get the best of your vacation no matter when you visit:

  • Factors that decide the crowd levels are mostly the school holidays, Orlando weather, and public holidays coupled with ticket prices for the date and special events.
  • Avoid visiting the park on weekends and national holidays as they are the busiest days. The crowds can be high during the festive seasons.

The parks are the least crowded from Tuesdays to Thursdays.

Mondays are also busy days at the park, as visitors arrive for an extended stay on Saturdays.

  • You must arrive 1 hour or 30 minutes before the park opens to get past all crowds quickly.
  • Be sure to look up the temporary closures when you plan a visit to avoid missing out on your favorite attractions.

For instance, the Dinoland U.S.A. will be closed forever and transformed into tropical forests and MonsterInc Land.

Spring of 2025 is also the last chance to visit Muppet&Vission 3D, Mama Melrose (May 10) and PizzeRizzo (June 7) before they are closed forever.

  • Purchase your tickets in advance to save time at the park and get a discount. The ticket prices follow a tier system (which we have explained in detail in our ticket guide). So plan wisely and secure your passes as soon as you have decided on your visiting date.
  • Gene Passes come in handy if you are a visitor during the high season.
  • Park closes early for visitors who are not attending the special ticketed events during certain months of the year. So it’s essential to have a park hopper on those nights.
  • Don’t forget to book a theme park reservation, if you’re using an Annual pass or additional discounted tickets. You might not be allowed inside the park without a reservation booked.

Now that we have the basics covered, let’s dive into the details of when is the best time to visit Disney World.

Best Time of the Day to Avoid Crowds at Disney World

Disney World Orlando comprises six different lands, each following their unique timings.

The best time to visit Disneyland Orlando Florida is when each park opens, as the crowds only increase later at noon.

Since most Orlando Disneyland parks open from 8 am to 9 am, you should get to the attraction by 7.30 am to be amongst the few people who avoid the entry crowds.

If you plan to visit Animal Kingdom, you should visit it later in the day, as most visitors begin here and hop to other parks later.

Check out the table below to see the best visiting hours for each park at Disney World:

ParkBest Visiting Hours
Magic Kingdom9 am to 11 am and after 4 pm
Disney’s Hollywood Studios9 am to 12 pm
EPCOT9 am to 12 pm and after 5 pm
Disney’s Animal KingdomAfter 2 pm
Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon10 am to 12 pm
Disney’s Blizzard Beach10 am to 12 pm

The best visiting hours change depending on the opening hours, month, and day you book your tickets.

However, you can skip past most crowding if you book an early entry access pass. Read further to know more!

Discover the Shortest Queues with Early Entry Access

Walt Disney World Orlando reserves early entry access for visitors staying at the Hotels to access most of the popular rides in all parks, excluding Blizzard Beach and Typhoon Lagoon.

This early entry access is only available with a valid admission ticket, as you cannot simply enter the park with a hotel reservation.

You will also need the MagicBand, Key to the World Card, or MagicMobile pass to enter the park before it opens to the public.

Visitors can get the Disney MagicMobile pass by downloading the official app and purchasing it, which you will need to scan at the entrance before getting in.

If you book a Hotel stay, you can get a discounted price to purchase the MagicBand, which can be accessed six days before your reservation date.

The Key to the World Card is available for free at the reception desk of your Hotel or the Guest Relations desk!

We highly recommend getting early entry passes if you plan a visit during the peak season, on weekends, or during festive months.

If you’re not booking a stay at the Disney World Hotels, read ahead to discover the crowding levels throughout the week so you can avoid all crowds even without an early entry pass!

Best Day to Visit: Weekday vs Weekend

Like all popular tourist attractions, Walt Disney World Park gets the most crowded on weekends.

You can enjoy a much more comfortable visit on weekdays, especially on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Mondays might be as busy as the weekends, especially during the peak tourism seasons, as visitors book extended holidays starting from Saturday.

Fridays and Saturdays are also crowded, as families beginning their vacations on Monday might stay on for a week and hope to explore more before leaving the park.

Compared to other parks, EPCOT attracts the most local crowding, especially on Tuesdays, and Magic Kingdom attracts the most visitors on Mondays.

Check out the table below to learn about the crowding levels you’ll have to face in the parks on all days of the week:

DayEPCOTMagic KingdomHollywood StudiosAnimal Kingdom
Monday ModerateExtremeExtremeModerate
TuesdayExtremeLessLessLess
WednesdayModerate ModerateLessLess
ThursdayLessLessLessLess
FridayModerateExtremeExtremeModerate
SaturdayExtremeExtremeExtremeExtreme
SundayExtremeExtremeExtremeExtreme

It is impossible to follow this weekly schedule blindly, as during the peak tourism seasons, you might find extreme levels of crowding on all days of the week.

For example, Hollywood Studios is exceptionally crowded during May the 4th week because of the Star Wars attractions.

Best Time of Year to Visit Walt Disney World

There is no one best of the year. Disney World offers different experiences throughout the year with fluctuating crowd levels.

You must consider the crowding levels of each month, which will give you a better idea of park timings, ticket prices, and, most importantly, the crowding levels.

According to our reports, May to July, November and December are the most crowded and busiest days of the year. February, March, August and until-mid mid-September you can get a relatively less packed park.

Here is a detailed guide to help you plan an uncrowded visit in 2025!

January:

The year begins with the festive spirit in Disney World where all the parks are still decked with winter decorations.

While the decorations are removed in a week, most awaited events like the EPCOT International Festival of Arts and the Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend begin shortly by mid-Jan.

The Walt Disney World Marathon weekend is scheduled for January 8 to 12, 2025 and January 7 to 11, 2026.

This is the biggest runDisney event, meaning longer waits for transport and pretty packed parks.

While the International Festival of Arts is the shortest EPCOT festival, it is a fan favorite. So you can expect moderate to high crowds during this time.

By mid-January, few water rides also close for refurbishments and the park timings get reduced until Spring.

This month also has a 3-day weekend for Presidents Day from 17 February 2025 (16 February 2026) and another runDisney – Disney Princess Half Marathon Weekend from February 20 to 24, 2025 (February 26 to March 2, 2026).

While the first few weeks of May are very silent, things get bustling in the park by Memorial Day weekend (May 26, 2025, or May 25, 2026).

Following this weekend, the park will stay busy for the next two months.

June and July

Most schools are closed by the first week of June and the little ones are out with families vacationing.

Along with crowds, the weather becomes hotter and park hours longer.

Fourth of July and the accompanying weekend sees the highest number of visitors.

This extra busy time brings extra long park hours, special fireworks, food and more to celebrate.

The climate and crowds do not scare the visitors hence the months are entirely packed with no least busy dates in between.

June and July are also filled with Tier 4 and 5 dates making it one of the most expensive times to visit.

August

Kids are finally back to school, the park is less busy and pumpkin spice has started brewing!

While it might be a little too early for Halloween elsewhere, the spooky season is already set in Disney World.

The Spooktacular events start by the first half of August and Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween party is open.

Unlike other Disneyland parks, Disney World’s Halloween is limited to the Magic Kingdom.

All said August is the best time to visit Disney World if you want to visit the parks with no crowd, cooler weather, get cheaper dates and still enjoy the Halloween celebration.

But then, there is a catch! Orlando rains! August is the end of Orlando’s rainy season, which means some rides might be closed and parks might end hours earlier than in the summer months.

There are no busy days in August and the second half of the month is the best time to visit.

September

While the rains have receded, the park is still quaint with the park turning into the shades of fall.

September is the best time to visit Disney World in the fall.

The temperatures are low and so are the waiting times and ticket prices.

If you avoid Labor Day (September 1, 2025, or September 7, 2026) you will have the most crowd-free visit of the park.

October

The spooky season is fully on and the park welcomes shorter spurts of crowds leading to the busiest times of the year in the coming months.

Along with trick or treating, you can also enjoy the runDisney EPCOT Wine and Dine Half Marathon Weekend.

Visitors start to increase following Indigenous Peoples’s Day (October 13, 2025, or October 12, 2026) and lead up to a very busy Halloween weekend.

If you are visiting Magic Kingdom during this month, the park has higher crowd levels than others.

Mickey’s-not-so-scarry Halloween Party has attendees flowing in from all around the country. This is a special ticketed after-hours event.

For non-party goers, the park closes early at 6 pm.

Those visiting Magic Kingdom and not attending the party should note that party visitors’ admission begins at 4 pm making the park very crowded in the evening.

November

It’s high season at Disney World as the winter months begin.

The pumpkin patches turn into Winter wonderland overnight welcoming the Christmas spirit. Unlike Halloween, all parks in Disney World are decorated and prepared for Christmas celebrations.

Here is what to expect – Special shows, themed areas, events, parades, fireworks, super high crowd level, long hours of waiting, higher ticket prices and shorter opening time!

If you are visiting during this busy time, fret not. There are so many of you visiting during this time everyone manages to move along the crowd.

All you need is a little planning and a lightning Lane Pass.

The best way to visit in November is by finding the hidden silent days and starting early.

Plan for more park time and leave the downtown area for the evening.

We recommend you stay on the site during this month.

November also comes with two special ticketed party events – Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party at Magic Kingdom and Disney Jollywood Nights at Disney’s Hollywood Studio. This means that the parks will close earlier than mentioned for non-party goers.

Following Thanksgiving, the EPCOT International Festival of the Holidays begins, leading up to a busier end of the year.

Best days of this month: November 3 to 8, 2025

Follow mid-December; the Christmas breaks start for most schools and it’s annual vacation time!

The weather in December is cold, so the park closes soon. With so much to do in the park during Christmas, you should start early.

Do not miss out on the special winter wonderland-themed attractions, Christmas Parade, meet and greets and shows and New Year shows and fireworks.

Find Cheap Hotels, Restaurants, & Disneyland Orlando Tickets

Visitors planning to explore the park on a budget must book their tickets for January or between August and September.

Since these are some of the least crowded months for visiting the park, you can find cheaper Walt Disney World tickets, compared to the 1-day $190 adult tickets.

Avoid the days around President’s Day weekend in January, as the park gets extremely crowded, and ticket prices increase this week.

You can find many Hotel and park discounts on the official website, from 25% off for a 4-day visit for Canadians and 30% off for a room stay from Sundays to Thursdays!

These offers are based on a first-come-first-serve system, so you must check the website regularly.

Each park has entry tickets, having different price ranges, the cheapest being the Disney Animal Kingdom, which you can choose if on a tight budget.

Don’t visit the park on weekends, during school vacations, and public holidays to save money.

How to Make the Most of Your Time?

We recommend planning a two or three-day visit for the most comprehensive park experience at Disney World with a park hopper ticket.

Those on a 1-day time crunch visit should arrive at the park 30 minutes before it opens to get in before the crowds arrive and stay on until it closes.

You must include entertaining activities like stage shows, fireworks, festivals, and meet and greets in your itinerary for the most memorable experience.
